Financing / Crowdfunding : "The Lunch Date" by Stephen Balsley

"The Lunch Date"

Hey all- After 6+ years as a RED technician within the Film Industry, and am finally looking to launch out and kick off my own Productions. I have spent around 2 years locating what I consider to be an Excellent collection of Writers/Short Scripts, assembling a enviable collection of gear suitable for a Professional level shoot, and assembling a solid Production crew that I trust and admire. I have scripts ready, cameras and lighting, audio, editing studios, actors on standby, and locations available. Now, for the final (but most important) piece of the puzzle, I am looking to prepare a Crowdsourcing and Crowdfunding campaign. This is the one area that I am far less knowledgeable and skilled at, and am not sure I have the understanding of even where to start. I am currently going through hours of RB blogs and Videos, Crowdsourcing templates and kits, and Stage32 posts, etc. I am completely overwhelmed. Please let me know if anyone has more experience in this area that can be of help, or even if you have an interest in being the Publicity/Crowdsourcing contact for the film. I don't think I have enough time or energy to pull off both sides of the project on my own. Thanks again for your time. Looking forward to hearing any advice you may have. Stephen B.

Have you started growing your crowdfunding crowd, yet? You know those people who are outside your circle of friends and family.

Hi Stephen, first of all going through the free resources on Stage 32 is an EXCELLENT place to start. I recommend reaching out to Steve Desmond for advice when you're ready.

Stephen, what’s “The Lunch Date”? The original Lunch Date was shot in B/W on 16mm in 1968/69 and won an OSCAR for best live action short – are you thinking a re-make?

Stephen Balsley

I'm familiar with the film. There is also another well recognized film with same title from 1990, among others. So far, we are shooting with a fairly generic descriptive title, but that may change as we get closer to finishing the project.

Stephen, I don’t get what you’re looking for – you have scripts, gear, cast, crew, location…everything you need. But it sounds like this is your first time out on your own. If that’s the case, finding investors will be very difficult without some sample of your work. You may have to produce your first short out-of-pocket so that you have something tangible that you can use in your future fundraising efforts.

Stephen how connected is your network? Clearly you're on Stage32 so you're off to a great start! If this is your first solo project ask yourself how important is THIS project? If its a passion project (the one that MUST be made before you hit your grave,) I say put it to the side for now, and start with something that you're not as tied to. Why? Because you can build up your street cred. as a producer. Start with a project with the intent of getting a seasoned producer to umbrella you. Then you'll have a solid credit under your belt which will speak volumes for the next project in the pipeline. Again I ask, how strong is your network? If you live in NYC I can help you with that. I connect industry players. check out my website: www.filminterchange.com. Also, this clip is from an interview with Producer Damon Cardasis from last Tuesday 9/22. http://livestream.com/accounts/8720916/events/4366394/videos/99994809/pl...
