Compensation for commissioned pilot

Hello everyone. So, a gentleman I met a few months ago is trying to get a show idea off the ground and has asked me to write him a pilot for the show as well as the pitch. It's an animated kid's show on influential people so it wouldn't be too long. The most difficult part on my end is figuring out a base storyline to weave into the many different stories so viewers can have something to connect to in each episode. He asked me what my normal rate is for this, but I'm a little out of my zone as I have only written original screenplays, but I have yet to be commissioned to write something for someone else and I'm also aware that he is still raising funds for the project. Any advice or suggestions? I need to give him my answer soon.

You've got to do a contract. Unless you are in the wga Union then you are not covered by their base minimum. Keep that in mind. There are lots of things you can do. A percentage of its picked up. A flat rate. I wouldn't do a back end deal. Those tend to rip us as the writers off.

Sorry I don't know about the money stuff, but good luck and Congratulations on your deal Hailey! :)

He asked you for the pilot. He asked you for the pitch. You are asking about 'continuity'? There are many thousands of influential people. The innocent curiosity of children is (can be) a thread.
