Fun with (script) statistics

I don't know how to get these on other programs, but with FD it's Tools>Report>Statistics Report Here are some from my latest script, Valhalla (action-thriller): Pages: 122 Words: 26.650 Paragraphs: 3,062 Scene Headings: 157 (3%) Action [lines]: 1,225 (56%) Dialogue [lines]: 819 (36%) Main Characters John (lead): speaks 250 times; total words: 2,843 Gemma (female lead): speaks 155 times; total words: 1,634 Dangic (lead villain): speaks 109 times; total words: 1,961 Expletives Ass (arse - as used in action lines - not counted): 7 times Bitch: 7 times Fk/fking/fked: 63 times Motherfk/er: 4 times St: 21 times Ct: 3 times NOTE: this is a thoroughly pointless thread created solely for those participating to compare statistics against other projects. Have fun.

Pah, somehow I missed an N in the thread title. Anyone know how to fix that?

Laurie Ashbourne

I don't know, I kind of like the title without the 'n'

Beth Fox Heisinger

There's a light gray, down arrow inside a circle located in the upper right corner of your post. Click on that and you should see the option to either edit or delete.

And there I was racking my brain over Fu? ...Fu? ...Fu?....nope no idea what that is. lol.

William Martell

Script Fu!

Dawn Murrell

LOL at the expletives!! Hilarious!!

W. Keith Sewell

A Freudian slip perhaps... I like that feature... but I'm surprise it has a library that knows all our expletives! FU! ;)

C. D-Broughton

Thanks, Beth, I went ahead and changed it (because I don't think anyone could top the script fu pun). What I've come to notice is that, usually, my scripts are composed of around (well, just under) 1/3 dialogue, which - for my genres - is probably about right. Your eyes should be a better judge as to whether or not your action lines are too blocky or not, whereas counting expletives is plain fun. Anyone care to guess how many F-words Tommy DeVito (Joe Pesci's character) makes in Goodfellas?

Steven Fussell

Anyone else paste their script into word and then do a word sort to see if there are any words that appear too often?

David Taylor

122 pages, 157 scene headings, and 105 expletives. You may also have talking heads. The summary is not as pointless as you obviously think it is.
