Introduce Yourself : Hi from London... and what do you think of the director's reel? by Paul Walker

Hi from London... and what do you think of the director's reel?

Hello one and all. Am a born-again film maker and have shot the ubiquitous music vids, short films, vanity pieces etc... and am in the throes of shooting a couple of feature-length documentaries (plus another short and hopefully a feature next year). Want to attempt to commercialise them and am just starting on this road. To give you an idea of where I am, here are a couple of little visuals: My little directors reel: https://vimeo.com/paulrwalker/review/59957168/1df6f187a7 Music vid I directed: https://vimeo.com/paulrwalker/review/84971935/ccf932163f etc... Am not a professional although have been fortunate to have been paid for a couple of things and have access to a few, low level investors. In addition, have been festivalled in both London and Toronto and have to confess it was a massive buzz seeing people pay money to get into a cinema to watch my (and other) film makers' shorts/ movies. Have no idea if I will be successful but look forward to hopefully meeting you soon! If you want to connect, please just go ahead. And what do you think of the reel? All the best Paul

Like the reel. Loved the brief ballet sequence. Diverse.

Serafin Soto

OMG this song, oh it's so good! The newspaper room is so 80's!

Paul Walker

Thanks. Everything needs to be stronger but am working on it.

Im a music guy at heart. I'd like to express my views but I enjoyed it so much I didn't bother to look for flaws. Learn, apply, learn , repeat.

It's not a great reel but shows a few things. Need to shoot an absolutely superb, kickass short. Music vid - the room was white walls so just dress the place - that's the easy part! It's really basic but it is what it is...

Sally Connors

I don't know what the song's about. And that's the songs fault not yours. The lyrics are all over the place. Your images are interesting and even when I don't know what's going on, I'm not bored.

Serafin Soto

Exactly Sally, not bored. That does counts. Sally reminds me, I don't hear music as much as I feel it.

In terms of the song, neither the DoP or I understood it so we got a little 'old school.' Newspapers on the wall, creative lighting, 'smoke and mirrors' (that old one) and lyrical emphasis. i.e. when the lyrics got onto 'wasted youth,' I showed a wasted youth (he is actually the DoP but he looks youthfully wasted). When the song was about anger, I put a fight in. At some point, the singer was going on about a group of people trying to get through one door so... etc...
