Greetings, Stage32! I'm a screenwriter/playwright/actor living in Laramie, Wyoming. I've introduced myself before here, and I do enjoy the back-and-forth with other artists. Laramie is an interesting town. Though it has a reputation of being a scary place because of the death of Matt Shepard, it's really a nice town. One of the scripts I'm working on is a valentine to Laramie, and features a closeted newly sober religion professor getting stranded here and falling in love with a gay atheist tow-truck driver. I'm a gay man and I actually enjoy it here a lot. (My favorite movies are ones that not many people know: BIG EDEN (directed by the fellow who wrote/directed THE FAMILY STONE with Sarah Jessica Parker, Luke Wilson, Diane Keaton, with the other roles filled out by an amazing cast), and LATTER DAYS, which is about a gay Mormon. Non-gay films I like: TERMINATOR 2, THE MATRIX, CLOUD ATLAS, SEABISCUIT, ETERNAL SUNSHINE OF THE SPOTLESS MIND, BLUE VELVET, DEAD POETS SOCIETY, ONE-HOUR PHOTO, ELECTION, AMERICAN BEAUTY, and a lot of others) Currently I'm working on rewrites of the "Laramie valentine" script and one other, and I just began a short play that might be good for a YouTube sort of experience. It's about an event from my past where I sent a smouldering look of passion to a fellow I had a crush on in high school at my 10-year reunion--and it was witnessed by his wife. I was locked into my sugar addiction at the time, and approximately 60 pounds overweight. I love to read other people's scripts and exchange feedback. Graduated from Dartmouth and from NYU's MFA Program in Dramatic Writing. I went through a bit of an interesting fallow period--I have been maintaining a 110-pound weight loss for over 12 years. My identity had been so tied in with being heavy, that when I lost the weight, I didn't know who I was anymore. I actually pondered that maybe I'm not a writer--but that's decidedly not the case. How many people get depressed if they're not writing? Anyone? I could probably start a support group! Hope to hear from some fun folks! Send me a note! Richard

Hi Richard Fantastic to see you here. I have visited Laramie many, many times since the age of 3, as I had family there. It's a very nice town with friendly people. As a kid I remember renting films from blockbuster there, then Hastings - which is also where most of my music collection came from. Small world hey! Gareth

Yes, Gareth--I spend quite a bit of time at Hastings! There are a lot of cafes here, and that's where I do most of my day-job work as well as my writing. I take it you don't get to Laramie much these days? It's funny--I used to live in Albany, New York, and this is Albany County, Wyoming. So I refer to it as "Smalbany County" to reflect that small world feel. Have a great day! Richard
