I wrote my film in reaction to what has been happening in the world and how we, as humans, seem to have stopped listening and hearing each other. The story started years ago with the thought of what the symbols of Yin and Yang would say to each other if they could, in my mind. My film is the two of them having a conversation or debate about equality. Because of their nature, they debate verbally and physically through a display of martial arts. We go through many stages of dialogue to help resolve problems and how we learn about ourselves through that dialogue. My film explores those forms in such a way that it's both entertaining and enlightening. My film also will incorporate the creation and destruction of a Tibetian sand mandala. The mandala is to help illustrate the phases of Yin and Yang working through their debate and how it leads them into understanding the other and being open towards changing their outlook about the other and themselves as a person. While researching the aspects of the Taoism and Buddhism and witnessing the sand mandala being created over a period of 5 days and dispersed, it opened my mind more to who I am, my purpose and what I wish for humankind. Being around the Drepung Gomang monks and watching them create a Green Tara Mandala, because I had to get permission to film them, the experience opened me to new ways of thought and communication when there was a language barrier. I had to listen in order to hear the message. For that, I am even more grateful to the experience this film is leading me on. My film is humanistic in that it's about what people go through everyday of their lives and although the message is subtle, people who will watch it, will leave the theater with a new sense of themselves and accepting of all that they are. The message of the film is for everyone because it is all about acceptance, listening, seeing and being willing to let go of previous thoughts when the new thought is a new understanding. I am driven to produce my film because it’s a message of love and for everyone. I started a Indiegogo campaign to help raise funds for production costs. This campaign ends Nov. 14, 2015. Here is the like to my Indiegogo campaigns: https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/yin-yang-mandala-of-life--2#/
This is a wonderful concept, and using Yin and Yan as interactive dialogue/action building blocks, to portray a universal theme is an ace stroke. It's great you were allowed footage of these rare Monks, I do hope this gets off the ground, often we need "to look inside" not outside to solve problems.
