Introduce Yourself : Hey everyone! by Alvin Cowan

Alvin Cowan

Hey everyone!

Hello Stage 32! I'm new to the site, but excited to have discovered it. I'm hoping to find my "tribe" of creatives... Me? I'm an actor/director/writer/producer who lives in Los Angeles - Venice, to be exact. I grew up in Austin, Texas and yes, I love it, miss it, want to go back - and will always be happy to give you my Austin restaurant playbook. I attended Yale University, where I played quarterback, and then subsequently flirted with the NFL - it was more a co-dependent relationship, I wanted them and they didn't want me. Either way, I was briefly with the Buffalo Bills before jumping into entertainment after stops in Romania and Albania - long story. Most of my time has been as an actor, but the past couple years I've branched out. My highlight, so far, was definitely working on a scene with Bradley Cooper and Clint Eastwood (my creative role model) in American Sniper. We're just about to take a half-hour comedy, "Big & Save" to market for pitching and have a hour-long drama script about Venice surf and skate culture, "Dogtown," ready to go - just looking for a producer/rep to help me get it out there! Know anyone? :) As a director/actor, I'm currently shooting a short film called "Rain for Sale" - a classic western in the Eastwood, There Will Be Blood vein. I also just began writing a feature length modern western called "Coyote" that I hope to direct/star in. So, thats me. As you can probably tell, Eastwood, Sam Shephard - these are artistic influences. I'm in LOVE with the American West (but not just "Westerns") and interested in stories of love, loss, and life set in backroads and wide open spaces. But, please, I love collaborating and talking films of ANY kind - drama, horror, adventure, comedy - so reach out. Lets meet up, grab a beer or coffee. I'd love to meet you!

Let's Go Buffalo! (I grew up in Lockport ;-)) I can certainly relate with the "Living in LA, but not an Angeleno" sentiment as well. My heart will always belong to NYC. So great to have you on the site. Are your westerns period pieces or modern-day westerns? Sort of an emotional desolation as the deserts become paved.

Rena Mason

Cool, you like horror films. I have a lot of creative friends in Austin. Great city. Best of luck with your feature western.

Alvin Cowan

Hey Dara - I certainly don't miss that winter!!! But, c'mooooonnn....the Italian food? The western we're shooting, "Rain for Sale" is a period piece. "Coyote" is a modern day western - takes place on the Arizona/Mexico border near Nogales....

Dara Taylor

I know...I'll probably get a lot of flack for this, but LAs food leaves a lot to be desired in quite a few areas, Italian is certainly one of them! And that's awesome, a little bit of both! I'd love to hear more about them, so keep me updated!

Alvin Cowan

Will do. We have a trailer for "Rain for Sale" that we should be dropping this week to help our crowdfunding campaign...so, keep a look out. Until then!

Spike Thurbon

Hey, Alvin... If you're in search of your creative tribe, you're certainly in the right place! Welcome to S32! All the best, Spike.
