The making of a masterpiece

if you haven't taken the 45 minutes to watch this beautiful documentary, i would HIGHLY recommend it. i'm in awe of the genius that is 'the revenant.' https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pJfTfsXFbLk

Innaritu does himself proud with an expanding portfolio of diverse movies. But this one is nothing like his other poetic ventures. I found it an overwrought and dreadful experience. And the long laborious shots of wilderness--much like a Terence Malik movie, good grief. Liam's "Grey" did a lot more on a smaller scale. I'm surprised why Tom Hardy is so highly rated. If it has to be a British actor there are a dozen better actors--Mark Strong, Michael Sheen, and Fassbender come to mind. Dicaprio is enjoyable in roles like "Catch Me If You Can" and "Titanic", but his performance in all the Scorcese movies and this one, don't do it for me. It appears to have been a difficult shoot and the whole cast and crew must have suffered a lot to make this. Kudos to them for striving for their art. But ultimately, are the characters fresh and interesting? Is the journey unique and compelling? Not for me. "Spotlight" and "Room" tower over this one for me.
