Introduce Yourself : Gaffer, Cinematographer by David L. Briggs

David L. Briggs

Gaffer, Cinematographer

Hello Everyone. I’m a newbie to stage32 but have been in the industry for a while. My name is David and I am a gaffer and cinematographer. While Philly is home, work is where the work is and I travel frequently. As a gaffer I have had the pleasure of collaborating with many great cameramen conversing and exchanging ideas. My resume is diverse; I regularly gaff or light design reality TV and indie features as well as corporate, industrials and commercials. Ultimately I would like to collaborate with directors behind the camera more consistently. I look forward to collaborating with all of you in the stage32 community as your gaffer or cinematographer. Let’s connect!

David-- Please forgive me. But I am a native New York screenwriter with my first script done and hopefully ready to go into pre-production once funds can be found. But my question to you is what is a gaffer? I am a newbie too so I hope you will understand. Even though I am 63 years old I am the third generation of a New York Show Business family of Actors, Musicians, Comedians, & Composers. I just started very late in life writing screenplays(about a dozen so far) after a 30 plus year in advertising where I wrote designed and produced ads. Anyway if you can let me know and look at my profile page and you feel we can work together I would be up to those discussions. The script is called "Hope Saves Manhattan" It is on my profile page under log lines. Thank you.

Hi Steven, the gaffer is head of the lighting electrical department. They work closely with the cinematographer in lighting the movie. Thanks for the question.

Great, We now have a lighting director for our little start up company called City & Suburban Motion Pictures. The script is done and most of the cast and crew is on free lance stand by. I realize this is very sudden and I am still looking for funding. However I am a Brooklyn native, Manhattan resident. 63 years olds and a lifetime of business experience in advertising and sales. I will find the funds to get this made. So if you like the script and want to add me to your network I would be honored. It took me over a year to get my screenplay the way I like it if it takes another year to find the $$$ I will get it done. Thanks

Hello David and welcome. I worked with David a few years back in Easton PA and he proved to have a great eye and fantastic visual sensibilities. Hard working and self directed, David worked closely with our producer heading up our B-camera unit. His work added many emotional moments to our film and intercut with my shots perfectly. If you are in need of a DP or gaffer who will be a great collaborator and up your production values, David would be a great choice.
