Talks on religion and politics. Who wants to do something African?

Here's a logline for another project I just finished. Need your POVs on the overall idea if it's good. By the grace of God, I hope it will be produced. [Logline] : BLOOD FOR OIL- Thriller Suspense. Fresh out of colonization, an African leader faces the terrors of the world leaders, seeking and scrambling to explore the country's crude oil situated in one remote village. Fighting for survival, a village girl cleaves to one of the rebel leaders but leads him and his gang into an unpleasant confrontation that will end the numerous bloodshed and render the terrorist world powers powerless. So far, that's how short I've been able to break the entire story down but I'm open to better loglines and what we think of the idea. Is writing about religion and politics as such, safe?

Veronica Coyne

I think this concept has great potential. The conflict is strong and immediate. I would change "world leaders" in the logline to to something more local in the village, who are the villagers actually confronting? They may be working for world leaders and I want to know why they do. As for your question about religion and politics, I have reluctance too, putting my views out there, because you open yourself up to criticism and judgement, but I feel it's part of my nature as an artist to get people to think differently about things. So, be brave my fellow screenwriter, but don't be preachy, show the truth and no one can destroy that!

First of all, thank you for your suggestion on the issue on politics and religion. Well, the foreign powers, which will represent the world powers, find and corrupt some of the villagers who oppose their present leader. So, this opposition groups form their army of rebels who attack the village... Detailed in the script and synopsis but bottom line is, there's an immense upheaval due to these oil fields that sets a nation apart.... That's the whole point. I like your comment Veronica. Thanks
