Usually with producing, you hopefully learn from your mistakes................but the first rule of producing is to not spend money. If you are an independent producer, you have to look at all of your resources and make a list of everything you can use. Spend as little as possible especially projects in development. Win people over with your passion and enroll them on your vision. You can easily spend a ton of money on a project that isn't going anywhere. You have to be cautious with every dollar that you spend. I learned from a producer for film that I worked on early in my career, I was the head production assistant and all of the department came to me for money. If the art department said they needed $100, the producer would give me $50 bucks to give to that department. See what you can do with creativity, chutzpah, hustle and out of the box thinking.
