Hello, I'm an American writer/director, currently living in Hamburg Germany. I've directed 3 low budg features, and now I am focused on writing for TV, developing spec pilots. I'm looking for a manager at the moment, and agent. Looking to meet other writers, filmmakers, and interested in know about everyone's experiences on this crazy journey! Hello!

Hi Byron. My family and I are looking forward to visiting Germany in a few weeks. One of our stops is Hamburg. Any recommendations? :) We recently did a couple of great episodes on working with agents and managers. I think you'll like 'em: Actors, Agents & Managers, Oh My! Pt. 1 http://daredreamer.fm/rfs-se11/ Actors, Agents & Managers, Oh My! Pt. 2 http://daredreamer.fm/rfs-se12/ Good luck on your journey. ~ Ron

Welcome
Hey Ron - thanks for the links! As for Hamburg, I recommend doing the harbor tour, and also you should rent a canoe and explore the canals. It's quite nice. If you like a more alternative scene, check out sternschanze and st.pauli area! Have fun!
Hamburg has canals? That sounds cool. I'll have to look into it. Thanks for the tips. Oh, one more thing. We've never studied German. We'll naturally try to learn all the common sayings. But I'm guessing English is common enough. I hate being THAT American who doesn't know the local language. We'll definitely try our best, but when push comes to shove, sometimes you just gotta go with what you know. :)
Ron, you'll be alright with just English. Here's a tip, instead of going up and asking if they speak english, just start speakign english to them, and they'll start talking to you in english, b/c from my experience, if you ask first, they always say no, b/c some of the older folks are not confident in English, or they dont want to be bothered. It would be good to know "danke shon" (dunk-a-shown) which means thank you.

Thanks Byron. That's great advice. Much appreciated. And OF COURSE I know Danke Schoen. Although, I can't promise I won't sing it instead of just say it. ;)
