Sean Hayes--"An Act Of God" on Broadway.

Richard Buzzell

Act of God, Hand to God - seems like God is becoming a theme on Broadway. How can I cash in on this trend?

Gavion E. Chandler

I just wrote a play 'THE PROBLEM WITH GOD'

Gavion E. Chandler

No, actually I just finished it and the past 4-5 months been working on MR. KNOCK that I just finished doing the first draft this morning. I have 27 plays that I written so far. But I don't see his link here Sean's that is.

Richard Buzzell

Gavion - In your play, what is the problem with God?

Gavion E. Chandler

Man, The devil (who is a female) states, "You hate, kill and judge all in the love of god. You shake fists at the heavens and cry 'Why God! Why! and curse me for all that is wrong and evil with the world , when everything that you are and the world is can be laid right at your feet.' What man makes god into be and what he does in the name of god and justifies acts that are less than godly.

Gavion E. Chandler

The play addresses the general idea of religion and how people try to fit 'God' in a box and place human attributes that are less than human at times, and think they have they only answer or the right way of worshiping, serving or talking to 'God'

Richard Buzzell

The problem with God is Man? Sounds like God may be engaging in the classic defense mechanism known as Projection.

Gavion E. Chandler

Whether it would be Christian, Islam Judaism or even Buddhist, whatever the form the idea of 'God' takes is based on faith. On the platform of two philosophies, the first being Kierkegaard who argued that one can neither prove or disprove the existence of 'God' and the second being Saint Thomas Aquatints who argued for the 'reasonableness for 'God' to be in his five cosmological argument, the last being Creation that has an order and design to it, so it is reasonable to assume that something, some will and force of being created i, the play is propelled forth in intellectual discourse. The debate between Man, God and the Devil teeters on the edge of the teeth of these two arguments as it explores and questions what man claims and does in the name of God, ever while he curses the Devil for things that happen and become as result of his own choices or there lack of. So yes, it is very much about projection of man's own self into the world and the self-denial that is nurtured in self-ignorance. Gavion E. Chandler~ 'Man is his own devil.'

David E. Gates

I love it when there are natural disasters, like tsunami's, that wipe out entire islands or villages and cause devastation and people say "God looked down on me and saved me from this..." Yet they completely overlook the fact that God, by allowing the tsunami to occur, put them in that position in the first place!!

Gavion E. Chandler

No they blame the Devil for the devastation or they will say God is testing my faith, just like God did with Job. Faith is not a bad thing, it's what keeps us humans going and perhaps God too. Maybe our faith is God's food, like the old Gods like Zeus, once people stopped having faith in them, the gods died out because they were forgotten. But that being said, THE PROBLEM WITH GOD play addresses how and what we portray God to be or not to be and inquires of those thoughts, and deeds that we do and create in the idea that somehow we are doing God's will, or the things that we don't do, that we should, like helping our fellow brother or sister because we don't have time, or we just don't give a damn. Being human is simple, we just make it more complicated than it really needs to be... just like God, or even the Devil to be fair.

David E. Gates

If God is so powerful, and all-seeing, he/she/it could still stop the tsunami's in the first place.

Gavion E. Chandler

THE PROBLEM WITH GOD play is written for such questions as Man, God, and the Devil deliberate perspectives and questions of sorts in rhetoric of whys and hows this all came to be . Their discussion teeters on the teeth of Kierkegaard and Saint Thomas Acquaints who argue that the existence of 'God' can neither proved or disproved and the reasonableness for 'God' to be because the cosmological arguments of order and design, that some force of will and intelligent being had to put things into play. What sparked the play was four persons who were of different faiths, three being of three different Christian denomination and one gentleman who was Islam faith. Each tried to tell me that they had the answer to 'knowing God' or who and what 'God ' was while trying to tell me that they didn't have the answer. This and my past experiences with the religious and the non-religious worked into the mechanics of the play, like when I was a Christian I encountered an Atheist who told me 'I'm not too found with your faith.' I responded, "I cannot prove God exists, and you my friend cannot prove that 'God' doesn't exist. I would rather believe in something and than nothing.' And that is your faith, to believe in nothing.' I now simply believe that 'God simply is.' There is no sex, religion or name to 'God' 'God is simply God' and I leave it at that. What path of faith, how one knows 'God' is personal, and I am not one to judge. To question and inquire of... yes., but to judge no. The play raises into mind of the audience what we have done in the name of 'God and religion' to justify actions that are less than godly and less than human. How we are quick cast aside our fellow brother and sister because they do not see 'God' as we would believe or think. This is why I wrote the play. Gavion E. Chandler~ 'Man is his own devil.'
