So, I can admit that I am new to the behind the scenes aspect to film making and I have just started to dabble in sound recording. I have already recorded location sound for a few shorts in an anthology and I was wondering if anyone had any tips that I could benefit from.
People get degrees in sound. It's a pretty broad topic so we'd be better equipped to help you if you provided us with more info about what you're trying to shoot- Interior, Exterior, controlled environment (your extras, streets closed off, will there be outside noise that you can't control, busy area, rural area, etc). As many details about what you're trying to capture would be great.
At this point, I was just wondering of anyone had any insight for someone just starting out on sound
Get good equipment and learn how to read it. Again, this will depend on the type of shoot. A boom/shotgun mic is a great place to start, along with a recording device like a Marantz or Zoom. Lavalier mics might be better cost wise just starting out.
