Good morning everyone!! I wanted to get some insight on navigating a Skype audition. Up until now, all auditions I have done have been in person and this Saturday will be my first online audition. Can anyone give me some tips? I've never done this before. Thanks!

It can definitely be a discombobulating experience, no question. But, it can also be a freeing one in some ways. My first suggestion is to set your camera in a position that feels natural to you. Spend some time doing this. Maybe even do a practice run with a colleague. For the actual audition itself, I would treat it as if you were simply filming yourself for your own benefit. Be relaxed, be present, be in it all the way.

I found it helpful to find a well lit, comfortable area of your room, with a plain background (wall color that compliments your skin tone) firstly have the monitor facing you so you can make sure you are framed well, then when the audition starts I would turn the monitor away so you can't see their faces. I found that part much more freeing!
Nice advice, James.

Get a good microphone! Whether it's from your webcam or a desktop mic, whatever you're using make sure you have a solid mic. You don't want a shit mic to make the casting director think you have an equally shit voice!

I'd add one suggestion to the good ones above. I helped an actor friend of mine do an on line scene submission by running the lines with him, helping with camera, etc. Based on that, for your Skype, if there is time, I'd suggest that you get a friend, actor or...., to help you with the run through, lighting, positioning the camera, etc. beforehand.

Following what @Erik said, I know it's late, but logitech makes the best webcam/mic combination on the market - I've tried a lot of them (https://www.amazon.com/Logitech-Widescreen-Calling-Recording-Desktop/dp/...) As for what Douglas said, have you tried We Rehearse before? As far as I know you can connect with another actor online and run through lines, but they do this sort of stuff all the time, maybe you can connect with someone and ask for tips instead... :) https://www.werehearse.com/welcome.php

Tomasz - As a non-actor, I was not aware of We Rehearse. Thanks for posting.

Yes, sorry, I worded my sentence all weird. I meant it as an expansion of your idea but it sounded like I'm asking if you personally tried it. :) #multitasking

Thanks everyone! I just got a new laptop that has a mic and camera built in and started testing and practicing for the last couple days. Now to fine tune my monologue...

No problem.
question: we have a skype pitch (happy writers) coming up in like 20 minutes, sent the info to the email address mentioned in the email confirmation and haven't heard anything since, is this normal?
Just shoot Erik a line at Erik@stage32.com - But the first session to day is at 2:30 PDT, so I think you're off on your pitch time!
everything went off without a hitch :)
Ah! I forgot about our earlier sold out sessions! Hope you guys knocked it out of the park!
