On Writing : Marketing by Melissa Butler

Marketing

For those who self publish, how do you go about marketing your books? I currently don't have a big following on any social media or otherwise. I have several books that I would like to publish before the end of the year from poetry, (FYI I know poetry books generally don't sell well I am publishing it as part of a competition I am entering) kids, a 3 part novella series as well as others. Is there anything I can do on my own that will help market my books. I am hoping to publish my first book in 3 weeks of less. Thanks

Have a look at the Self-publish? Don't Self-Publish thread - that gives some interests aspects on this topic. Primarily, it's about targeting your specific audience.

Do readings in local libraries. Get "media training" if you are not used to public speaking so you will feel more confident. Good luck.

I use smashwords, who in turn publish on the big sites. https://www.smashwords.com/profile/view/Flashbern

Contact Thatcher Nalley. She teaches how to self publish and even has an e-book to teach you how to promote. She is a quite successful self published author herself and she's very friendly and helpful. https://www.stage32.com/profile/539944

Gordon do you also publish on kindle? Thanks Heidi.

Sori Melissa, missed the notification. No just smashwords, and leave it all up to them. It's a good platform if you get it right; cover photo, layout. I'm not to fussed for Political reasons.

If you publish on Smashwords, it can be published via the Kindle I believe.
