Last year was my first time at the Austin film festival. It was an eye opener knowing that it's like winning the lottery if you can get a screenplay optioned. I was all pumped thinking my script will all around me and get chosen from some miracle chance meeting with someone with connections. Glad that experience is over. 2nd year I think will be different as I will do the wait and see approach. Hang back in a conversation of many until I can make a joke, then pounce from the laughter. Anybody ever feel that way the 2nd time around?

The first couple of years at AFF, I was there more as a screenwriter than as the CEO of 32 and a speaker. My first year, I wouldn't say I was intimidated, but I certainly hung back a bit and took it all in. 2nd year, I pounced. I made it a mission to meet everyone. And I made it my strategy to be selfless and not make every conversation about me (unless asked). I came away with incredible contacts and open invitations to submit material. As I preach often, it's all about approach. On a related note, we'll have some cool announcements regarding AFF soon.

Thanks for the advice Richard. Last year I tried not to geek out too much. When shane black starts talking to you at a bar, you try to refrain from 16 year old Justin Bieber fan. This year I am ready. Looking forward to AFF announcements.

AFF is a great experience as long as you know how to be engaging while playing it cool and professional. ive loved being a speaker and pitch judge there the last 3 years. And of course partying with RB & other friends. Sadly i will not be returning this year, but hope to next year! Have fun!!

Yeah, that's a bit of a bummer this year with you (danny) not being there.

I am going to AFF. In the past years, I've used it as a way to get to know more about the writing industry as I am new to taking screenwriting seriously. This year, I still plan to speculate and meet filmmakers, but I have been working on my first feature and will have the first 10 pages handy for anyone that asks about it (not shoving it down anyone's throat!) Since we have to wait in line for films and panels anyway, it seems like a good opportunity to have a discussion about it. Hopefully that is a good approach!

Thanks for all the great feedback. I hope to introduce myself to all of you in person in the next coming weeks.
