A quick reveal to The Black List, InkTip and Virtual Pitch Fest

From MovieMaker Magazine <>> "A quick reveal to The Black List, InkTip and Virtual Pitch Fest. The entertainment industry’s answer to eHarmony, these sites match people who write with people who make movies, offering a portal for unproven scribes to get unsolicited scripts into the hands of A-listers. and They sent story expos and their ilk the way of the T-Rex, and a dozen or so years after their debuts they continue to grow in popularity." http://www.moviemaker.com/archives/winter-2015/screenwriting-websites-bl...

Fascinating, and I'm amazed how much I didn't know!

Dimi Nakov

That makes at least two of us..haha

Beth Fox Heisinger

This "guide" made my stomach turn. Shallow one-sided analysis indeed.

Bill Costantini

I'm all for any service that helps writers expose their works and sell their scripts. Kudos to the services that do that.

Beth Fox Heisinger

Sure, but a more well-rounded, fair, objective exploration or guide of those services—the pros and cons—would be more helpful. ;)

Dimi Nakov

I find it very helpful and I am sure many others would do too.. Could it be better? Yes..It always could be better..Like anything else in life ofcourse it could be better.. If anyone can make this guide better, I suggest to do it, or to write to the authors of this article, stipulating what can be improved so they can improve it (hopefully), then share it with the community and show what this guide should be like especially if you know whats missing and how it can be improved..We are here to connect and help each other and improve on what needs improvement and also help those who dont know how to help themselves, right?..D

Beth Fox Heisinger

Dimi, the link you posted really isn't a "guide" but rather an opinion piece—one that almost seems to be sponsored it's so one-sided. Regardless, I would hope that writers would do their own due diligence and research these various options for themselves. A general search by topic in the Stage 32 Lounge brings up many opinions and personal experiences with sites such as The Black List or Inktip. Our community does share much information. Thank you so much for doing so in kind. :)

Dimi Nakov

Thank you Beth..I guess there always has been some kind of marketing attached behind any good piece of information out there using it as a hook..I also hope everyone who reads those articles will make their own due diligence and make the most of what they read..Kind of learning how to read between the lines..haha..Will keep sharing articles that i find useful and hope will help others as well..Best wishes for an awesome weekend..D

Phillip E. Hardy, "The Real Deal"

I got a script read from a literary agency off Inktip yesterday. So it continues to occasionally connect me with people.

Every site crowbars your piggy bank. It's the best time to "break in". You're home in pajamas & pitching. Try hustling 20 years ago before Internet. Back then, you had to go door to door, face to face, paper scripts in your car.

Becca-Chris M

Thanks much for sharing the article, Dimi. Very insightful. Always nice to hear from someone's personal experience. Going to further look into all three websites!

Beth Fox Heisinger

Becca-Chris, please do look further than this one article. ;) And, Dan, sure, these sites provide access, as does Stage 32, but what's wrong with being better informed?

Dimi Nakov

Absolutely agree Beth..Always do the due diligence and look for multiple sources to get clear on particular topic or issue..Every article has some useful info for everyone of us..For some is more and for some is less useful, but none the less useful even if we read between the lines and discard the marketing angle of each article..

Bill Costantini

Many of the service providers that I'm familiar with seem to do a pretty good job at marketing their successes. Stage32 has a "success story" page; as does Virtual Pitch Fest, InkTip, FadeIn's Annual Hollywood PitchFest; and GreenlightMyMovie. The Black List doesn't have a "success story" page, but there have been a handful of articles on sites like IndieWire about writers who sold their works after being listed on the Black List's Database Site. One service provider that is really getting some big results quickly in the last few years is the Tracking Board/Launch Pad service. It's not a script listing site, but their competitions have helped many writers get signed to deals, and their "Recommends" Coverage Service has also helped many writers get deals - including a few bidding wars.
