Does anyone have any experience with shooting a short trailer for a finished screenplay and if so how effective was trailer in getting reads or sales?

When I sold my script to Lions Gate, I did a mock movie poster and shot a 2min trailer. Pure amatuerish. They only cared about the story and concept. unless you plan to direct, IMO it is a waste of time and $$$. Pay for a read. It's faster and cut ahead of the Competition.
