Anything Goes : What was your favorite childhood movie and why? by Stacey Chehardy

What was your favorite childhood movie and why?

What was your favorite movie as a kid and why? Mine was To Kill A Mockingbird. I eagerly awaited it's annual tv presentation. That movie ran the gamut on emotions: fear, anger, pity, sorrow, love, joy... But as much as I love the movie, I never could get very far reading the book. The person who adapted the book did an amazing job.

I never really got to watch that movie. When it came out on tape, my mother had it and I popped it in the tape player to watch it - bad timing, it was after my grandmother's funeral and I was looking for a diversion - didn't sit well with MY "mommie dearest" and I never went back to watch it again.

To Kill A Mockingbird was one of my all-time favorite books, but I didn't see the movie until I was an adult. As a child... For the pure joy and fun of it - FOUL PLAY - because it was the rare multigenre - rom-com mixed with suspense, farce, action, and screwball physical comedy. I also LOVED Goldie Hawn and had a huge crush on Chevy Chase - back then! I distinctly remember the opening aerial shot over the absolutely beautiful winding mountainous Pacific Coast Highway. I thought to myself "Wherever that is, I want to live one day." ...And didn't even realize that manifested for several years after I moved to the SF Bay Area - when a friend from NYC visited and my then boyfriend now husband and I drove Highway One to show her the sights. I was blown away! LOL What's funny is that the fairly recent Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz flick KNIGHT & DAY has echoes of FOUL PLAY - with a modern twist. It's another just-for-fun movie that's definitely worth seeing. I decided to post this because I'm in the middle of a mind-numbing late night deadline and needed a quick procrastination break, but also because I was just thinking about how the newly released film KEEPING UP WITH THE JONESES is another rare multigenre along the same vein. Zach Galifianakis, Isla Fisher Jon Ham, and Gal Gadot all give HIGHLY entertaining performances, and the script is freakin' hilarious. :?)

I would have to say Star Wars as I became A sci-fi brat after seeing that. It probably was part of the reason why I got into comics, art and entertainment. After all where else can you use your imagination to influence, inspire and get paid for it.
