How does someone in a small town with big dreams catch the eye of casting directors without leaving their town?? How can you skills gain media attention??
I'd like to tell you what I did. I looked on craigslist with my dada and started with student films and I traveled all over to do them. Then I got a part in DIVERGE with Noah Lang (Steve Lang's son -Avatar guy!) and then a co-lead in RAIN and then a lead in FELICIA and then the director of VET Films saw it and cast me in a lead for a big budget film in April! And you just have to do free stuff and travel anywhere to build up a reputation and show your stuff to as many people as possible and learn as many different roles as you can! And I'm only 12 now! And be willing to pick up and drive to any place with no notice so there ! Good luck!
competitions, social media channels, network with producers in your area so they can want to work with you, create your own stuff. Then think about moving to a bigger city, it does not have to be permanent.
If you wanted nothing more than to ride roller coasters what would you do? Go to where the roller coasters are. Depending on your hometown, you may HAVE TO move to where the work is. You can create your own content wherever you are, but you need resources to hone your craft and provide you opportunities. If you just want to be famous, then start a YouTube channel where you are. If you want to be a successful actor, you need to be surrounded by other (preferably successful) actors. If they don't live in your town, then maybe you shouldn't either.

What Stephen and Christina said + networking, networking, networking. It's not just about your craft, it's about your connections.

And look for those who use Skype as part of their casting process.
