Character development

how do you personally develop and get to know your character? if there is a sheet you use could you link me too it?

Steven Harris Anzelowitz

Realize this is old school and it is not a link but a book. I started screenwriting 2 years ago and I joined Stage 32 shortly there after. But to date the best source I have found for character development and everything else to make your screenplay great is 'Aristoles Poetics' .

Craig D Griffiths

I write a book about it. Send me a message and I'll send you a copy. $3 on Amazon, not really a get rich quick strategy lol. "Writing screenplays with intelligence".

Sue-Kim Steele Green

I mentioned this in another thread but I was given the advise of using the 'Briggs Myers' 16 basic character types. Whatever your characters reason for being in the story should resonate with their character type. This in turn should steer your story. The multiple layers of your character derive from a basic type and how they respond and function. Their motivation will stem from their values and wounds.

Dan MaxXx

I (try) write characters to push my theme.

Jeff Lyons

Use the Enneagram :) Best character development tool out there. Do the Enneagram to find best motivations/behaviors... all the rest is just detail (hair color, favorite foods, etc.). Its the motivations that matter because that is the action on the page.
