Profile loglines

What do you put up and what do you leave out?

I'm curious if writers here use the loglines section to advertise what that they're trying to sell or that they've had produced (in the case of pro's)?

Do some of you just chuck up the loglines for all your scripts to make yourself look more productive, or do you only list those that are market-ready?

The script I'm pitching at the moment I don't have listed; I've also left a couple of others off for similar reasons, but all listed are complete. The majority are strong enough for the market, but a couple were written for the TV/DVD market, whereas others are indie flicks and a couple aimed at Hollywood. One is a sample that I once used and I have zero plans for, but because it's pretty old and not such a good representation of my work, I'll probably pull it down. My stinker scripts though (and let's be honest: at some point, we've all written them), aren't listed.

I also haven't mentioned any shorts.

I'm just curious how you all utilise what could potentially be such an important part of your profile.

Steven Harris Anzelowitz

My (3) scripts are copyrighted. And the more eyes that see them the better. Stage 32 has over 500,000 members in Film TV and Stage worldwide. So my question is not why put them there. It is why not?

Patrick Gatov

I include shorts because they are solid writing samples. People know within the first couple of pages if they want to work with you or not.

C. I haven't posted any loglines but I imagine they are screenplays people are trying to market. If they are in development or production there wouldn't be a reason to promote the scripts here.

Dan MaxXx

lol... Ouch! DanG, a drop of reality to us wannabes :) No wonder why pro writers here don't post loglines- they are already paid.

Im gonna keep jumping out of planes without parachutes, pray my USC hoody & affiliations find a buyer. If not, there is always teaching :)

Dan,

An excellent point, but what about screenplays that have already been produced? If writers post links to their IMDb page, why not just mention past credits?

Abdelouahab Hammoudi

I put three but no one looked at them so I deleted them. Seems like folks are not interested in reading loglines.

Jody Ellis

I have a couple loglines/synopsis up but no scripts. Not because I worry about anyone stealing anything, but because I don't use this site for marketing. This is a social outlet for me, people to chat with and discuss different aspects of screenwriting.

I also don't feel like I need a ton of readers/feedback for my scripts because I have established a small stable of connections in the industry who allow me to send my scripts to them to potentially try to sell, and have a couple trusted readers for feedback and helping me with revisions.

Abdelouahab Hammoudi

Jody, you sound wise and I totally agree with you.Should do like you.

Dan Guardino

C. If a screenplay has already been produced there is not reason for a screenwriter to post it here in the logline. People can post their past credits in their bio if they want.
