Financing / Crowdfunding : Self Finance or Wait for Pickup? by Christopher Henry

One of the TV pilots that I wrote is being promoted all over, however, I am now in the position where I can finance the pilot shoot and several more episodes myself. My question: is shooting the pilot and going to a "pilot fest" more valuable than trying to sell a screenplay to a network or streaming company? What are the downfalls of shooting your own pilot (and more)? This is ridiculously expensive and I'm wanting to know if I am shooting myself in the foot by going the road alone, or does it provide a better vision to content producers of value in the project? I'm trying to balance my desire to get this produced versus waiting for a venue to say "let's go". If you have the resources to do it - do you just do it? Any input is VERY MUCH appreciated.
