Hi everyone - it's been a while since I've been here to introduce myself. It's been a busy year as I was finishing off high school AND my feature documentary The Sunrise Storyteller (http://www.thesunrisetoryteller.com - please check it out) which had it's world premiere at the United Nations in March and screened at Through Women's Eyes at Sarasota film festival. Now applying for other festivals and there are SO many (unfortunately Hot Docs in my hometown of Toronto, did not accept it - was really bummed about that) since festivals usually have a short time that they will allow new films into their festivals..also learning about the world premiere status trap too because in order to hold back for a larger one would have meant waiting out another year on the 'chance' that I might get in...Long story short...it's a TON of work and hard to figure out as a newbie.
Good news is I've been accepted into two more this summer and have been getting great testimonials for the film so far.
Would love to hear your recommendations for film festivals that you think are really good and that I should apply to - oh, and who give waivers - because there isn't any money here to submit. Ya, that part isn't too fun.
Ok thanks so much and look forward to hearing from you.
P.S. if anyone has a contact for Jon Landau (Avatar, Titantic) please let me know. I met him in September at One Young World, he was really kind and he took my card and said he'd check out my film and I would love to send him a screener copy.......
