Video Auditions

They are good and bad.

I have recorded my own voice reading the another characters line and timed it to recreate scenes but it takes some practice. It has gotten me roles and come out great, also invest in cheap lamps that can clearly light up the environment. Then to finish it off you can download free software like lightworks to add a professional look to the take and send it in.

I think video auditions is a good option for the first round of auditions, some directors use them as a filter to reduce the amount of people to see in the actual audition, most of the time when the production team is in another city or country.

Positive side of this way of auditioning is that you have your own time to prepare and don't feel the pressure or anxiety of being in an audition room with director, producers in front t of you.

The negative side of this is that as an actor we don't have the direct feedback or guidance from the director but if they are very specific with what they want we can do the work.

Remember that is an audition... If they ask you to send a video, they are expecting to use your phone, of course they want to see and hear you clearly but definitely you don't have to create a scene from a movie with expensive equipment, the simple the better, they want to see a character not a production company.
