Acting : Tips? by Samantha Bowling

Tips?

I'm 16 years old, and I'm very new to the world of acting for film. I was previously a theater actor and singer and I want to branch out. Any tips coming from one and to the other? Thanks! :)

I started in Theatre, Samantha, and then did some film work. I didn't notice a lot of difference. More standing around, longer hours, some film actors thinking they can get away without learning their lines. Just present yourself as Professional and Confident and work hard and you will impress. All the best for 2018.

Don't let an agency talk you into: using their photographer or a photog they new know, cause...(just between you and me, you simply need a portfolio from our guy....) ; charging you for a bunch of training/career development courses.

Thank you for the advice everyone! :)

Start auditioning for student films and Independent films so that you can have footage for your demo reel. Once you gain some film experience, you can start looking for an agent. Make sure to continue taking acting classes to develop more in your skills.

Wow, I'm sooo happy you asked that question Samantha! The replies you received are so helpful to ME too! And thanks Ms. Wilken. And for sure Mr. Hartman is dead on--everyone wants $ for head shots, etc. I might add that you DO need a portfolio of head and body shots, but do it on YOUR terms with YOUR photographer (in my opinion). And when you do it, make facial expressions for a wide range of moods--from super kind, to sour grapes, to super evil. Do this in each set of clothes and hair styles. Then you have a collection to pick and choose from depending on the role that your are auditioning for. This example is not very good, but I kind of attempted to capture a range of me in the fall of 2016 see here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WNt2HwhcsAM I can't stand to watch it honestly, but it's been good to me so far (except that I had my braces removed a few weeks ago.) Let's stay connected please.
