Getting a movie made: Aim for the stars but don't be afraid to settle for a mountaintop.

Many aspiring screenwriters are looking to write the hundred million dollar blockbuster. Believe me, I've written a stack of big budget screenplays too. However, there's a lot of producers looking for scripts they can shoot for two hundred thousand on up to a million bucks. And, the chance of an unproduced writer getting a gig for a million dollar movie is significantly higher than a fifty million dollar production.

I highly recommend checking out this podcast to hear about how actress/producer Kailey Smith Westbrook found her a script where she had roles as both actress and producer. She talks about the steps in getting this movie made. I've attached the links to the film's good-looking trailer and the podcast.

Let's not forget Robert Rodriguez with his "Rebel without a Crew" true tale of making his first feature for $7000... even submitting himself to a hospital's experimental drug trial testing to raise $bank$ too.

It is 1,000 times easier.

Dan G: Agreed. I'm grabbing for low hanging fruit. If something higher up falls, like a jar of caviar, then I'll take that too.

u can write a $100mil script and it doesn't mean the Bosses will keep you around. Gotta know how to work rooms & massage big egos with A-List people risking their established careers with a first timer. rookie writer Liz Hannah (The Post), a spec with $50mil budget with spielberg, hanks, streep, the production Boss hired Oscar writer Josh Singer to polish script (half WGA credits/residual checks).

Uncle. I have a lot of big budget film screenplays but I prefer the lower budget ones because I can be involved in the production. I have several in development in the $300k to $3M range.
