Screenwriting : New or Previous Pitch Reviewer by Thomas Thorpe

Thomas Thorpe

New or Previous Pitch Reviewer

I've noticed that Happy Writers is scheduling a number of industry pros who have just heard pitches in November and December. My question is: would you rather pitch to someone new or someone familiar with an earlier version of your pitch (who might also have a preconceived bias and could dismiss your pitch with little effort the second time around).

A new pitch of the same script would have to be significantly different, it seems to me, to have a chance of convincing an industry pro to change his/her mind and request the script. In other words, I'd try someone new instead. I think you've got to give a pro some credit for having the ability to properly judge whether a script might be of interest even when the pitch isn't optimal.

keep moving. I was chatting with a WGA Writer and he said in 2017 he was rejected over 100 times and it was one of his best years as a working writer. Go figure.
