On February 2nd, I gave myself a personal challenge; to finish a screenplay, from a treatment I had previously written, by March 5th. (Thank you to several people in this lounge who "backed" my challenge!) I am proud to report I have come in five days early! How did I accomplish this Herculean feat? Writing from a completely flushed out treatment helped keep me focused. From there I employed one of the most common principles of all the screenwriting books and systems I have read; make every scene serve the story. So as I started each new scene, adhering to the story I had outlined in the treatment, I said to myself “what is happening in this scene, what should the scene convey and how does it move the story forward.” Then I simply instructed the characters of their jobs and wrote down what they did and said. It’s just a first draft, there will be changes and rewrites, but I have completed another screenplay and in record time!

CONGRATS, Robert! I remember Elmore Leonard saying once, "Why get writer's block? There's something else blocking it." I know the feeling of finishing a script early and it's certainly a wonderful feeling at that! GOD BLESS and STAY FRESH! ;)
