Short Film Festivals

Hey everybody

Since I am new here I hope this question wasn't asked over and over again: In 3 and later in 5 month the second, I got my first two short films done as a director and producer, that I would be confident to screen on festivals. But which festivals should I go for? Both movies are in german language and with english subtitles. Genres are 1) romance, drama 2) mystery, fantasy ... What would you recomend? Thanks for your help upfront :D

Best, Jonas

There are so many festivals, particularly short film festivals, I think you’d see better result by taking those $25-$35 dollars per submission to festivals as use that money to direct market your short film through YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, you would see bigger results in your “views” and may be able to leverage those numbers to get funding for your feature film, which I assume is the end game of your plan? Wish you all the best.

Thanks Ryan for the Tipp! I think this is a reasonable thought ... but isn't (a good) festival where you win a good networking opportunity?

Ryan McCoy

No. You don’t need a film in a festival in order to network there. Just go to the festival, trust me. I started going to Sundance every year without having a film in the festival, or even Slamdance, and have found it 100% ROI positive. If you have more specific questions about tactics for networking, shoot me a message here. All the best!

Yeah Ryan’s right, just go to the festival and say your there just scoping it out. You’ll be asked by everyone you talk to if you’ve got a film in the festival, try not to let that intimidate you. I just told everyone the truth, that it wasn’t finished in time maybe next year.
