So Netflix is chainging the world - is that good or bad?

Jeff Lyons

Good.

Doug Nelson

Jeff, I agree with you but I'd like to know why you see it as a good thing.

Bradley Gallo

I like evolve!

James Drago

More content!

Jeff Lyons

Good because: Netflix gets 50 picthes min per day, they will work with indie producers/writers, they will do domestic and inter'l content, they do more straight to series projects, they tap sources other than traditional for talent (agents, managers, etc), they are pushing all the other studios (Apple, Hulu, Amazon, everyone) to do the same ... which means work work work for writers. It's not paradise, but it's better than it was 5 years ago and it's not stopping any time soon.

I agree with what you're saying but I like to look at the big picture. I see the big studios stumbling out to pasture. They'll never go away with all that capital intensive infrastructure and hi-tech wizardry but their motivation is the making money. Of course the small time Indie filmmaker can't compete in that market but that also means that the gigantic players can't compete in the Indie world. (The big studios make movies - the Indies make films). Netflix, Hulu, Vimeo and others are are creating market channels that benefit the small time Indie filmmakers...an' it's just gonna' grow.

More work but Netflix is a “studio”; they traditionally work with repped folks and agencies. (There is a report that CAA, ICM, WME agencies have 80% of the business at Netflix).

So start building a track record and paychecks will come.

Jeff Lyons

Doug/Dan: Yes agree with both of you.
