So I had a pitch with an exec a couple of months ago. Even though they really liked the idea, and thought it could be successful, they turned it down because they thought it wouldn’t be as successful if it didn’t have an overseas version first. HOWEVER! I’m extremely confident that it would be an enormous success. The problem is that I have no connects to put this into action at a local level. Any ideas on how I can get sponsors to help with the production at a local level?

Volunteer on a local shoot- tv, film, play, commercials, wedding videos, film students and go from there. You gotta build your own tribe, find your people and exchange favors. Especially now since technology is cheap (home editing computers, cameras and efxs software).
Maybe enroll in a filmmaking class and meet folks
Build a web , create a Buzz around your project. post all over, Twitter, go make a page on Slated Here : https://www.slated.com/films/200642/team/
Thanks! Its not a movie though... it’s a reality competition show.

Overseas version? How would that differ from your original concept? If you believe you have a winning show concept, fund the pilot episode or part of one yourself. Revealing too much on social media, hoping some person or persons will back you will get your idea stolen.
It doesn't matter. you can still do it. Good luck.It doesn't matter. you can still do it. Good luck.
JD, I’ve registered everything with WGA, so I’m not worried about it getting stolen. I just want to know how to get the first season done. Maybe I can do an unaired version, and take it back to them based on popularity? But then, how do I find the funding? How can I get sponsors?
Get some local folk together (there are film folk in Phoenix) to produce a pilot or proof of concept short. (hint: most Producers will look at a short but few will pay any attention to your pitch.)
What are your reservations about doing an overseas version first? The disadvantage of working in a collaborative industry is that there will always be compromise. What is your ultimate goal? To have the project made or to make a project locally?
I'm not saying you should do an overseas version. But if someone is willing to fund it for you, it's important to realize whether the resistance is because it's not your original plan or because it will hurt your ultimate goal.
