NATPE: who goes - and why?

HI Stage 32'ers,

I'm considering attending NATPE this year - it would be my first time and I'm just curious, if you have gone, your experience, was it worth it? Or, more importantly, did you sell your show

Thanks in advance for sharing your thoughts and experiences!

Doug Nelson

Doesn't look like there's much interest from the folk in here - sad! Miami is on the wrong coast for me but I have been known to wander about the West Coast version down in L.A. where I've made some very valuable personal connections. I often read laments here in S32 about how hard it is to make connections in the industry. If you're into TV - here's a great opportunity.

Hey Cherelynn, I can help you.

RB emailed me a heads up to see if I could jump in here and help out.

I used to be the VP of Programming at NATPE; have done tons of behind the scenes pitch prep for them (i.e.: https://www.natpe.com/page/pitchprepservices); wrote a ton of "How to Pitch TV" blogs for NATPEWord that you might find helpful (https://www.natpe.com/blog/?s=heather+hale

and actually just wrote a book on this exact topic: How to Work the Film & TV Markets (http://heatherhale.com/how-to-work-the-film-and-tv-markets

If you're in LA, actually, we're doing a couple of PGA panels at CBS Radford on 9/15.

A: It depends on where you're at in your career - and with the project, what kind of deliverables you have (one sheet, pitch deck, sizzle reel, pilot script, series bible, episodes to full seasons in the can, etc.), what you're pitching (reality or scripted), what kind of formats and genres, who you're going after (and will these prospects be at the market?) and ultimately what your goals are (financing, distribution, attachments, marketing, international territories, initial networking, outright sale, set up a co-pro, etc.). It's too much to type in an online forum (it's literally enough to fill a book!) ;-)

I do consult on all this (http://heatherhale.com/consultant) but I'm happy to chat with you on the phone (easier than typing so much) and help you strategize your approach(es) and give you some tips and tricks if you're gonna hit this TV market.

Feel free to email me directly at my first name at my first name last name dot com.
