Audition Atrocity

Hello All: I am a former Chicago Model/Actor who has booked actual roles on "Empire" , "Discovery Channel", "Learning Channel" and then some. In other words, I am no stranger to the idiosyncrasies and vagaries of the business.

A few weeks ago, while visiting my daughter in California, I scheduled an interview/audition with an agent in Sacramento for potential representation. Prior to the meeting I had sent my resume, links, and virtual portfolio. When I arrived for my 2:00 PM appointment at 1:45, the receptionist asked me to leave the office, AND the building, and to return at exactly 2:00 PM. She said my watch was fast (I should have synchronized to the atomic clock) and they were expecting someone.

I left the office and loitered in the lobby with a good book. This way I could nonchalantly stake out the elevators and stairs. No one entered or exited. I returned to the office at my appointed time, where I was asked to fill out the usual form with information I had already provided.

When the owner came out to greet me, instead of shaking my hand, she adjusted the thermostat over my head. Our meeting lasted maybe five minutes during which time she essentially told me I was old and ugly. I left feeling like, well, fill in the blanks _ _ _ _.

Once back in Naples, FL, my Miami agent called me with an audition for a health care company. Pay-out: $1400/day. I made the call back and the back-up. My confidence restored.

The point is, this business is a bitch - don't let it get you down, and keep believing in yourself.

Wow. Awful experience. I believe in karma and he will get his. The most encouraging thing is that you moved on and didn't let one ass bring you down!

Kelley Christene Watson

That's my point! Don't let one jerk bring you down!

Olyvia Bollin

It takes a real jackwagon to treat someone like he did...especially in an industry that demands you put your most vulnerable being out there. Even if a person was nowhere near ready (which obviously isn't your case), there's a human decency in order! I wouldn't WANT to work with that troglodyte. Good riddance. smh

Kelley Christene Watson

Thank you Olyvia! Rise above!

Dorein Paul

Wow one below average door closes so an above average door can open. God is Good. All the best Madam.

Jorge J Prieto

Excellent ending to a horrific experience. In the end you , won big time. Congrats!
