Can you talk to a script agent or anyone professionally with out a complete script? To get some interest in your idea and the project. Or do you have to have everything done and ready to be shot? I feel really alone out here.
I agree with Derek here. But if for whatever reason you do not have the script completed at least have the completed treatment. it will help you out tremendously.
I have a complete treatment . even making a look book of the world and what everything looks like to help with the visual. I have lots done just the screen play is kicking my ass. I may be thinking to hard. I know here I want to go and have in it but I feel it has a weak foundation but a strong over all story. its the little bits the Character interplay I cant get. Chugging away at it.
Just write. Scripts will have rewrites anyways. What i do is i write the script and keep side notes of better ideas and possibilites you can add them in during rewrites.
Assuming for a second that you had a perfect script that beautifully illustrated your brilliant idea. It is a huge, gargantuan task to find anyone who would be willing to read it. No agent, producer, or anyone connected would bother unless you have a track record and credentials. You are saying you don't even have this script. Just the idea for one. Do the math.
Usually you need to have more than one completed script before an exec will even consider talking to you. Because even if they read your script and like it, one of their first questions is going to be “so what else do you have?”
Your other options would include making the movie yourself and creating a shooting script over a spec, or hiring someone else to write it.
Yes that's why you have those co-writer's.....a few people have everything...the story...the dialog...the scenario...the script...and the character characterization ( in / out)....but Jody is definitely
You went to Columbia, so you have that going for you. Getting sidetracked in another career...well...shit happens, and I know that feeling too, bro.
But if I didn't have a finished script, or two...or six.....I wouldn't even consider trying to pitch something to an agent.....an agent who hears pitches everyday from writers who have six or ten or 20 finished scripts....and from professionals who have credits in the business....and from their own current clients, too.
There are a lot of people who went to Columbia and who grew up on the South or West side and who are successful in the business. If you're ready to devote yourself to writing, or to put a project together and do it...then you have a chance, just like they all did.
Best wishes to you and your loved ones, and best fortunes to you, bro!
YEP THAT'S TRUE YOU HAVE TO HAVE A LOT OF MATERIAL DIFFERENT TIPE OF CORSE AND IN THE END YOU CAN HAVE 50 SCRIPT'S BUT THE ONLY THING THAT'S IMPORTANT IS ? IS IT GOOD? DO YOU HAVE SHIT OR A MASTERPEACE ;) YOU CAN HAVE EVERYTHING BUT IF THE STORY IS BORING BY BY TIME ;) SO MAYBE IT'S BEST TO TALK TO A FRIEND'S(THAT YOU TRUST) ABOUT YOUR IDEA AND THEN IF YOU SEE ON THERE EXPRESSION THAT THEY ARE INTERESTED AND ASK THEM WOULD YOU WATCH THAT MOVIE TWICE YOU CAN PROCED ON THAT BUT IF YOU HAVE THE TIME WRITE ANYWAY'S WHAT ONE PRODUCTION DOSEN'T WHANT THERE IS A POSIBILITY THAT SOME OTHER PRODUCTION WILL TAKE THE GAMBLE AND THE RISK...I HAVE A QUESTION 4 BILL IF I MAY? HOW CAN I GET A AGENT OR A MANAGER TO DO BIZINIS IN YOUR COUNTRY BECAUSE IM FROM CROATIA SO DO I HIRE HERE A AGENT AND THEN HE GET'S IN CONNTACT WITH SOMEONE FROM AMERICA OR DO I HIRE AUTOMATIC AN A AMERICAN AGENT? THANK YOU BILL...MUCH LOVE FROM ZAGREB-CROATIA
Thanks Bill!!! Ryan Coogler and Steven Caple Jr Have been big inspirations to me. I think the thing I have the most is fear. fear my stuff sucks and is epic and awesome in my head only. Friends all like my ideas and have read some of my stories but they are my friends. Not very objective. Girlfriend is the same. she does give good feed back but still she loves me so . Bill , Fillip mind if I send you some of my ideas and tell me what you think. I think confidence is my wall. Been struggling with my own mind.
Jason: so should Robert Tellel - he graduated around ten years before you, and he co-produced The Hate U Give, Soul Food, Barber Shop and Men of Honor, among others.
