Im Maria Monte de Rey, Deaf Screenwriter, and I am the chair of the California Association for the Deaf Media Committee. The mission of the committee is to serve as liaison between the Entertainment industry and the Deaf community, and advocating for awareness of issues relating to Deaf people and the industry such as the visibility and authenticity of Deaf people and American Sign Language in Film, Stage, Screen and print media. Our main goal is to cultivate and foster strong relationships between the Deaf community and the industry.

Greetings Maria,
When I was very, very young my Grandmother taught for the School for the Deaf in my home state. Even though I was never personally affected by hearing impairments her influence on me has always remained and I've spent a lifetime working to understand the lifestyle of those without hearing. Cheers to you and the work you're doing.

Hi Ted, FYI Don't use word Hearing impairment or impaired. Just Deaf or Hard of hearing (HH) Cuz Deaf community don't like those words and need update. Thank you for sharing your experiences and comments. Keep up with your writing.

Hi Maria, How wonderful that you are doing so many things to expand the range of screenwriters and deafness. I have a good friend who was a deaf speaker and she was amazing. There is so much potential in us all!
