Introduce Yourself : Making Progress by Patrick Peacock

Making Progress

Hello, again!

I haven't been on in a while, so I figured it would be a good idea to re-introduce myself to the community.

I am an independent filmmaker in a small town in Georgia - about three hours south of all the filmmaking activity in Atlanta. I work in the micro-budget realm and have made several short films over the past decade. With the exception of some crew on my last short, all cast and crew have been volunteers, and I handle the production and post myself.

In 2018, I applied this same model to (finally) make my first feature film, "Back Focus". It is literally a "no-budget" movie in the since that I knew the cost would be so low that I didn't even make out a budget. It's a romantic comedy/drama with no stunts or effects, so I knew it would be cheap to make.

We got the community involved and excited about the project (yay, crowdsourcing!), so I didn't have to pay for any locations - including two restaurants, a coffee shop, and a historic theater. We also practically moved into a beautiful old home in town for a couple of weeks to film a major portion of the story. The couple that owns the home were incredibly gracious. Their dog even ended up with a "speaking" role in the movie. :-)

We filmed over last summer/early fall, and I am deep into post on it. I'm really excited about how it's turning out, and it has been a great learning experience for me.

I am handling all the post myself to this point, but I am also hitting my limitations as a colorist and audio/sound design person. So I may seek out some professional assistance in these areas at some point if the cost is feasible for me to raise funds to cover. I have no idea what's realistic to expect, though. I got one quote for grading from a full-service production company, and it was way out of my league. Perhaps there are some talented, reasonably priced freelancers I can work with?

I'm also interested in sharing experiences with other people operating at my level and exploring promotion/distribution opportunities and strategies. My first goal is to try to be more active in this space and on other social media. Still trying to find my footing there.

I look forward to making some new connections!

Bo. R. R. Tolkien

good to hear from you. I have a feature film concept that takes place in Georgia. It's a superhero action genre about race in America. Don't tell Tyler Perry.
