I am so determined to transform my book based on the incredible 25 year Step By Step journey & the inspirational road that led me to this journey. So what is my best hook to attract filmmakers.
Did I mention that I have a very $$$RICH admirer willing to finance this world-class film? It's true I really do have someone. He is real & is well known in the financial world.
Did I mention that in 1988 while I was in recovery from heroin addiction I picked up a video camera & started filming my recovery with a cast of a hundred others? I actually grew up as a good Italian Catholic Boy, excelling in school & sports. We have a saying if you are Italian growing up in an Italian Neighborhood, God gives you 2 choices; Either you grow up resembling a cast member of Everyone Loves Raymond or you grow up resembling a cast member of the Sopranos. Unfortunately, at 13 years old, I chose the Sopranos. I became addicted to Heroin at 16 & began a long line of Penitentiary sentences until 1984. I was going to trial looking at 20 years for drug conspiracy charges. Me & my co-accused planned a brazen escape from the courthouse. We overpowered the guards & I was within feet of freedom & all of sudden it felt like I got stuck in quicksand. I told my co-accused to leave without me. He was apprehended 10 days later & soon after our trial was finished. By some miracle, we were found not guilty. I was going through a very strange time & somehow my life led me to a drug treatment center in 1986. I submitted or surrendered my troubled life & changed back to that good Catholic boy. I was determined to rescue all my friends & anyone who wanted help from jails & drugs. I actually became a pioneer for drug rehabbing at a time when it wasn't cool yet to rehab. I picked up a video camera filming our recovery almost on a daily basis from 1988 to 1995. I caused a lot of controversy in the 12 step world of recovery. In 1995 I had 2 days left to live. A liver transplant saved my life. When I woke up after surgery I had the vision to walk across Canada carrying a torch of life to thank my anonymous organ donor & all donors of the world. I also was determined to save all the people waiting for organs. Step By Step was born, a charity I created to accomplish all these things. Did I know I was destined to keep filming the Step By Step journey for the next 25 years? From the moment I began recovering in 1995 to my 12,000 kilometres 769 day walk across Canada & 8 other high profile campaigns around the world to address the global organ shortage, I continued filming almost every day. I now have thousands of footage hours organized from 1988 to the present, including over 1000 media stories. I have covered over 30 years of truly, truly inspirational events & a fantastic story. I became one of the world's leading advocate on organ/tissue donations. Sadly, since 2014 I have been living day to day suffering from terminal kidney disease. ( longterm use of anti-rejection drugs ruined my kidney, no regrets). I am praying that someone will use my footage, my book, my story & create a world-class film to address the global organ shortage & bring humanity closer together. Can that be you
