Filmmaking / Directing : Question on Studio Teaching by Alex Washington

Question on Studio Teaching

I am a California Certified Studio Teacher, and I wanted to know from a Producer's, Director's, and etc.'s point of view is it hard to find one.

I saw somewhere on here, I think, It said don't hire one from here. And as a Studio Teacher I see Production Assistant Jobs (I used to be one), Producers, Sounds, and others. I want to know is it hard to trust, or do I need to have a link to credentials. I love screenwriting, but I enjoy teaching as well, and I wish to continue it.

If you could spread light on this it would be helpful?

Usually the Production Coordinator, UPM and Key Second AD have lists of people they've worked with and liked. We call them first. If none of them are available, we start asking people we know for names. Then we turn to listing services like

Or Mandy or LA 411.

You should get on those lists. You can also send your resume to Production Coordinators on shows. IMDB Pro and Production Weekly are great resources, but they are subscription based. It takes a while, but once you get established you'll be in the loop and start getting calls out of the blue.

We take chances on new studio teachers all the time because the ones who work regularly always seem to book up fast.

As an LP and AD I so far have had no issue finding a studio teacher. My personal mode is to get resume from anyone who looks basically qualified. I don't pay attention to "don't hire from" kinds of posts. Of course, I have my go-to people whom I have worked with previously, like most in my position.
