Timeline Structure

I'm about to write a war genre feature script and I'm planning to set it up on a non-linear time structure. What do you think? Is It a good idea for a war movie? The movie will be about Syria.

Craig D Griffiths

Yes. I can see so many reasons for doing it.

You could use it to show a contrast between the person before and during the war. This may prompt the “how did they change” thought in your audience.

Knowing and outcome and having the story march towards it can be a great way of being dred to a story.

Just don’t think a clever technique is a substitute for a compelling story. You may be better served writing the story and trying the non-linear approach as a rewrite.
