Reality: Always the Weird Kid in the Room?

Hi All-So I was excited to find Stage 32, it's always nice to find a group of like minded people, especially when you're coming at an industry in which you know nothing and almost no one.

In any case, we pitched a winemaker centric reality show at Fade In Magazine's Pitchfest last summer, which we called Vinified, back then we received great feedback, but like many others have said before us, pitchfest doesn't sell your show for you. It just tells you, if it sucks or not.

I already have learned that reality does make us that weird kid in the room so to speak, but any feedback and advice is appreciated.

Welcome Mark. I'm planning to attend the Pitchfest this year to pitch a feature length Thriller. Any advice?

Mark Aselstine

Hey Anthony-I went ahead and wrote up something quick about Pitchfest-it's on my wall. Overall it's a good event, much better than I expected in fact.

Hi Kay-thanks for the comment-I don't mean to be negative about Pitchfest, it worked well enough for us, that wasn't my intention, I get how it would read that way though.

Especially if you're coming at it from outside the industry and outside of LA, it can be really, really difficult to make connections and get moving. Pitchfest is one of the few spots where you're guaranteed some immediate feedback, which is so incredibly valuable.

But oh man, risk your job on it? That seems like an impossibly high bar. For what it's worth, I didn't get the impression that our bar was quite that high..,..again, I don't know if reality is simply different than scripted, or if it's a tv vs feature thing. Or both.

I'm going to the pitchfest and I'd like to ask you a few questions. PM me.
