Introduce Yourself : Writing, writing and more writing! by Lenny Levy

Writing, writing and more writing!

I have been writing for many years. Most recent projects include movie scripts, plays, poetry and song lyrics. I'm not sure why, but some of these words seem to be flowing out of me as if I'm being channeled to deliver messages that need to be heard. My main question is what is the next step? I submit some of my works to contests and have had a little success. Would enjoy finding similar minded folks to discuss projects and collaborate with.

Hello Everyone. Tonight is the Emmy Awards, and it's the same type of awards show that's been done before, so I'll pass. Now to you folks, what I'm looking for is writing assignments or any other opportunities I can as well as networking with other writers. If you've ever seen Perry Mason, or any of the regular medical show, there really isn't very much that surprises you. At least to me anyway. They say Hollywood is devoid of new ideas, and yet they don't accept any. Are horror movies really scary anymore? I understand there are two more installments of Halloween coming up. What number will this make? How many haunted dolls do the general public want to see? Movies should not only entertain but challenge conventional thinking. I don't remember the last time I've gone to a movie to actually sit down and watch something that interests me. I'd rather get a good DVD of older movies that tell a story, rather than what's being put out today. So much political upheaval and other stuff going on today. I'm not surprised by what I'm seeing. No one knows what's true and what's not. Reality TV shows where people are the norm. Sometimes I wonder if what I'm attempting to do will ever get any traction in the industry. I introduce myself to you in order to see how you're doing?

Hi Lenny - You are on the right track. Look for blogs or online magazines/papers that accept submissions. Really research which one fit your interest or style of writing and target them. Research the editors, read the column and get to know what they like / look for then submit to them. Don't give up, be persistent and keep writing!

Try your local actors studio or groups, best you can do is attend local festivals and meet others that way, lots of opportunities to meet people who would happily read your work or collaborate with you.
