Protocol for displaying a popular quote

I'm writing a short/potential pilot and have a scene where the main character gets to a location for the first time and notices a sign with the Ferris Bueller quote "life moves pretty fast." The quote ties together the reveal at the end, but is only seen in that one instance and doesn't change the story if I don't have the shot.

Where should I begin to get permission for that, presuming it's necessary. I don't currently have plans to make money from the short, I'm mostly doing it to work with a couple actor friends and have more of my work available to see, but I'm always open to the idea turning small projects into bigger projects. Is this something I need to get approved before shooting or should I just shoot and edit it in a way that I can remove the shot if asked?

This is a script - show the sign. I would write: INSERT Sign reads blah, blah.

I’m not asking as a screenwriter, I’m asking as a producer, as I said I’m making it as a passion project but always want to protect myself in case it becomes more.
