I have been an anti-drug activist for over 40 years; that includes living in the streets of NYC in the 70s for four years fighting my own personal drug war. When the Guardian Angels came to the city in 1979 I decided to call it a day and let Curtis and his group take over. I took a ride up every now and again, but things were changing. Still having the desire to fight, I entered the ring; lost my first three fights then developed my own fighting system. For 11 years I was one of the top ten kickboxers in the world. During that time I became a keynote speaker in the Network 3 anti-drug program. My stories of the streets were apparently somewhat mesmerizing. One day, after hearing me speak for 45 minutes, a librarian approached me and simply said, "You have to write a book!". At first I thought she was joking; then she insisted, "Those were some of the most amazing stories I ever heard." Coming from a librarian, I took it as quite a compliment. So, I wrote a novel,... then three screenplays from the novel,... then a script about the world of fighting in the ring (in which I was well versed),... since then I have written a total of 11 screenplays, and just finished the biography of Melody Gardot.
It looks like what you did was meant to be.
Congratulations, Jerry!
