As a first generation Mexican-American, I am interested in writing novels and screenplays about values shared by the peoples of Mexico and the United States. At a time when there are those who want to build a wall between the two countries, I think it is important to not only tear down existing walls but to build more bridges between people who hold in common a belief in freedom, equality and social justice. I am the author of two novels, CALL NO MAN MASTER and SOUTH WIND COME, both published by Arte Publico Press of the University of Houston. My screenplay LABYRINTH OF DESTINY was a finalist in the 2018 Academy Nicholl Screenplay Competition. My script based on the founding of the Republic of Mexico, LOVE AND INSURRECTION, has been a finalist in several screenplay competitions. A breast cancer survivor, I am active in support groups for women currently undergoing breast cancer therapy and for those who have completed treatment.
