Screenwriting : Translating a script by Francesco Volpi

Translating a script

Hello lovely people,

I was asked to translate a feature script from Italian to English. Should I apply the same rates for normal translations, or there is a specific guideline in regards to scripts?

Thanks in advance!

Francesco

Christopher Phillips

Somewhere between $0.08 to $0.10 per word. It also depends on if they want a literal translation versus making it sound more native.

Thanks Christopher!

Did that for someone wanting a review. His unformatted screenplay was in English but the dialogue was in Italian. The writer said he wanted to sell it in the US, so I translated and formatted the first few pages for free as an example of how it could/should be done. If he had asked me to to do the whole script I would have charged .10/word, as I did have to Americanize the phrasing, especially since it was a period piece. It was actually a pretty good story, he just needed help pulling it off.

Thanks Anthony, appreciated :)
