Screenwriting : A question for writers who has written a story based on a real life story? by Karen Loriana

A question for writers who has written a story based on a real life story?

Hello everyone, I hope you are well today.

I saw a public trial case, and I want to make a story based on the reality of what happened and what I think one of the witnesses could have experienced during the time of the events. When the victim was healthy, she told the witness certain things that the witness said in court.

For example, the witness said in court: "The victim asked me: Are these pills for a severe migraine? My sister gave them to me, but they made me feel very weak. In another day, she told me that her sister was angry because she wrote a letter to Tom that said: * You are an incredible guy, you can achieve what you want, love you *.

One of the things I want to do is that my victim character say exactly what the witness said in the courtroom. I mean:

Victime: Are these pills for a strong migraine? My sister gave them to me, but they made me feel very weak.

-------

Elsewhere in the script.

...

The victim reads a letter aloud to her sister.

Victime: You are an amazing guy, you can achieve whatever you want, I love you! I love the card, do you like it?

-------

My question is if it is okay to recreate the moments the victim experienced with the witness based on what I heard on the courtroom? Should I ask permission for that, if so, to whom?

Thank you! That's really helpful.
