Introduce Yourself : Cabin fever in Vienna by Brook Hall

Cabin fever in Vienna

As Vienna, Austria starts to turn the corner and open up, we are faced with the realization that entertainment might be the last aspect of “normal life” to recover. As an instructor, I can indulge my creativity in my online teaching projects, but it’s leaving me unfufilled. Recently, I filled the void by acting in a collaborative online film for the Orlando (Florida) Fringe Festival, and, honestly, setting up shots, editing footage, collaborating with artists around the world- each of us doing our part in isolation- was a great feeling. So, if anyone is looking for participants in another lockdown project like that, Im game. Otherwise, I have a lifetime of experience in many areas of this business. Starting as an actor, I appeared in commercials, small films, and National Broadway tours on stage. Honestly, i never got the break that would make me a household name, but I started to get interested in the production side. I started by assistant directing and producing for the stage, eventually running my own theatre company and starting a production company and soundstage. I had always been a choreographer and the jobs started for TV specials, commercials, films, and events. The leap to the position of director was logical and I found I had a knack for coordination, pre-production, and managing large numbers of creatives and talents (the largest event I directed was 5000 performers for the opening ceremony of the National Taiwan Olympic Games in 2011). Likewise, I had the pleasure to work with Ang Lee, Martin Scorsese, and Luc Besson (among others). I work a lot in Asia (I speak Mandarin Chinese), but currently I teach stage and on-camera acting and dance at a new English language performing arts in Vienna, Austria. My production company and theatre company are closed now, and Im happy to be teaching at the moment. In terms of this site, I am happy to meet other writers, producers, directors, cinematographers, composers, and casting pros, building a network for some future project that lights my fire to get back into production. Especially if you are in Europe or Asia, feel free to reach out.
