Producer/Fixer living in Jordan

Hello people and nice to be connected with you all here. I received today a recommendation by Ms Karen E Ross (Community Manager at Stage32) asking me to introduce myself on this Lounge. Well, I am a TV Producer and Fixer based in Jordan. I have been doing producing/Fixing for over 18 years. Please do not hesitate to message me or email me if you ever required any information or logistics about filming in Jordan, Mid-East or the region. Be safe.

Is that a fixer as in gangster?

There are quite a lot of them in this industry...

Ghassan Salti

Hahaha... No I am not a gangster. I could have been. I was always a trouble maker at school. Well, Fixer is a production term that is used mainly in the States and UK. It is a Title that is similar to a Producer but has deeper meaning. It is like "Fixing Things" on location or on the spot when a problem or special requirements needed to be done/fix on ground. I hope I was able to explain it correctly:)

Hey Ghassan Salti! Awesome to have you as a part of the community! I shot a movie in Petra years ago and it was one of the most enchanting places I have been. Incredible and I hope to return one day.

For those of us who don't know, explain a little about the Jordan filming opportunities. What are the benefits? What are the crews like? What material would be best shot in Jordan?

Ghassan Salti

Thank you Jason for your post. I look forward to seeing again in Jordan hopefully soon. Jordan is becoming one of the world's film Hubs in the region. "Sergio" which is playing on Netflix was shot in Jordan (I would say 40% in Jordan), but "The Messiah", which is also playing on Netflix was shot in Jordan and I would say more than 50% filmed in Jordan. "Jinn" which is also on Netflix was shot entirely in Jordan, and mainly in Petra (I recommend everyone to see it as it has great GV's for Petra) As for the big screen movies, such as Star Wars, Aladdin (Disney), The Martian and much more was shot in the Wadi Rum area (Lawrance of Arabia desert). We have great crew and infra structure that the Royal Film Commission has developed over the last 15 years. I have filmed in several locations (i.e Egypt, Israel, Syria, UAE, Oman, Qatar, Yemen, Morocco) and nothing was smoother than filming in Jordan. So, in other words, Jordan can bring forth a great opportunity in terms of location or double for other neighboring countries such as Iraq or Syria and Palestine. As for benefit, Jordan can offer great deals. Jordan has increased the maximum cash rebate available from 10% of Jordan spend to 25% for international productions. For a minimum local spend of $1m up to $3m, Jordan offers a 10% rebate, rising to 15% for productions between $3m to $5m. For spends of between $5m to $7m, the rebate is 20% and for $7m and above, productions are offered 25%. If anyone needs any additional info, please do not hesitate to email me or pst here your questions. Thank you and be safe.

Lovely to meet you! Jordan is a beautiful place, it seems to have a lot of cultural diversity as well as creative freedom that not many people know about. What kind of TV have you been "fixing"?

Ghassan Salti

Thank you Arafa for your comment and nice to meet you too. Well, I mainly work for US TV networks, such as History, Discovery, TLC, TBN, Travel Channel, Smithsonian, NGTV and other independents TV networks, But also I work with many private production companies, of course. The main Genre is TV documentaries, Travel, Historical docus and biblical. But I also, do a lot of reenactments and I tend to work as art director in many situation.

Hi Karen- It's cool to be with you on Stage 32. Tomorrow I'll post a video of my self playing Howard Hughes. I like to practice my acting on Facebook and put things up there. It's fun. A great work in progress but it's fun. Sincerely- Ed Skirtich
